November 20, 2007: Ten Scholarships for IT and Computer Science Students

Ten Midwave Scholarships in Information Technology Excellence and Career Development will be awarded to information technology and computer science students this November. The $1000 scholarships will be applied to spring 2008 semester studies. Interested students may visit http://www.strategicit.org/0_scholarship.shtml for further information and to download the necessary forms. Applications must be received by November 25, 2007. Requirements for the award include completion of 12 credits toward a declared major or in a certificate program, a 3.0 GPA, and a written essay.

"These scholarships will provide educational opportunities to Minnesota State Colleges and Universities students who intend to pursue a career in the high-tech industry in Minnesota," said Bruce Lindberg, executive director of the Center for Strategic Information Technology and Security (CSITS). "Midwave scholarships will be awarded annually for both Spring and for Fall semesters by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Foundation through CSITS."

Jobs in high-tech fields are expected to grow up to 36 percent by 2014. Midwave Corporation, sponsor of the scholarships and one of the region's fastest growing technology solutions companies, is invested in helping the Minnesota business climate by assisting students in related study programs.

July 1, 2007: 'Biker Bob' set to begin sixth scholarship bike ride

Robert Erickson, chair of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Foundation Board of Directors and former member of the system's Board of Trustees, will embark upon his sixth bike ride to raise scholarship funds for part-time students. Scheduled to begin in September 2007, Erickson again will travel to all 53 Minnesota State Colleges and Universities campuses. More information will be posted on the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Foundation Web site as the kickoff nears.

August 17, 2006: Robert Erickson set to make fifth bike tour for scholarships

Aug. 21, 2006, marked the start of Trustee Emeritus Bob Erickson's fifth bike ride to raise money and public support for part-time students who attend the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. Anoka-Ramsey Community College was the starting point for the 2,300 mile bike ride that will take Erickson to each of the 53 campuses in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. The Scholarship Challenge bike tour will conclude Sept. 21, 2006, on the campus of Normandale Community College.

April 21, 2006: Deadline for Penny Fellowship Scholarship for Summer Internships set for May 1, 2006

The Minnesota State University Student Association (MSUSA) established the Penny Fellowship program in 1987. Named in honor of Timothy J. Penny, a former MSUSA officer and U.S. congressman, The Penny Fellowship awards stipends of up to $2,500 to Minnesota State Colleges and Universities students participating in service-related internships.

April 19, 2006 - Donors and foundation directors recognized by Minnesota State Colleges and Universities trustees

About 200 volunteers, foundation directors and donors who support the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities were honored Tuesday at the system's Ninth Annual Foundation Recognition.

Held at The Depot in Minneapolis, the event was sponsored by the system's Board of Trustees, Chancellor James H. McCormick and the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Foundation.

September 22, 2005 - Robert Erickson's fourth bike tour of 53 campuses raises $27,276 to aid part-time students.

Robert Erickson, a former Minnesota State Colleges and Universities trustee, raised $27,276 on his fourth annual 2,300-mile bike tour to create scholarships for part-time students. To date, Erickson has raised more than $255,000 over four years. The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Foundation and college and university foundations will distribute scholarships with donations generated from the bike tour.

September 14, 2005 - Glen Taylor offers up to $500,000 to help hurricane-affected students attend two of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities

Gift from Timberwolves' owner targets Minnesota State University, Mankato, and South Central College

Moved by the plight of hurricane-stricken college students, Minnesota Timberwolves majority owner and business executive Glen Taylor is committing up to $500,000 to help these students attend Minnesota State University, Mankato, or South Central College.

"Education has been very important in my own life, and I think it's important to help college students affected by this terrible storm continue their education while their home institutions recover," Taylor said.

Taylor is chairman of Mankato-based Taylor Corporation and an alumnus of Minnesota State University, Mankato, one of the 32 Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.
